| Microscopic
molds can be found almost everywhere. However, when
visible mold begins to appear within a dwelling,
it can pose health problems to humans, and remediation
should take place. Visible mold indoors is a red
flag that something is happening, i.e., improper
venting, a leaky roof or windows, water in the crawl
area, etc. Mold can grow on virtually any substance,
providing moisture is present. There are molds that
can grow on and within wood, paper, carpet, and
foods. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings
or on building materials, mold growth swill often
occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains
undiscovered or unaddressed.
- The
key to mold control is moisture control. It is
important to dry water-damaged areas and items
within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.
- If
you already have a mold problem, ACT QUICKLY.
Mold damages what it grows on. The longer it grows,
the more damage it can cause.
- According
to health experts, mold can have serious health
effects on humans. The most common symptoms are:
runny nose, eye irritation, cough, congestion,
and aggravation of asthma. Usually, extended exposure
to mold and fungi can increase the chance of more
serious health problems in the future.
